If you recently purchased a Sauna Box or are thinking about getting one, there’s something important you should know up front: the Sauna Box does not come with an extension cord—and that might be a bit of a problem.

Here’s why.

The SaunaBox Steamer Cord Is Only 6 Feet Long

The Sauna Box uses an electric steamer to generate heat and steam, which is what powers the entire sauna experience.

But unfortunately, the cord that comes with the steamer is only about 6 feet long. That might work fine if your electrical outlet is right next to your sauna setup—but let’s be honest, most of us don’t have a power outlet in the exact spot we want to use our sauna.

And since the Sauna Box is designed to be mobile, you’ll probably want to move it from time to time—maybe from one corner of the room to another, or even outside onto your patio or balcony.

But short of dragging around a heavy outlet with you, the only real solution is getting a solid extension cord.

Why You Need an Extension Cord for Your Sauna Box

Because the Sauna Box is meant to be flexible and portable, you need flexibility with your power source, too.

In the U.S. electrical outlets (also called receptacles) are typically spaced about 6 to 12 feet apart along walls in living areas. When it comes to outdoors, electrical outlets can be spaced out 20 feet and sometimes much more.

Whether you’re using it indoors or outdoors, you’re going to need some reach—especially if you’re trying to create a relaxing sauna experience without rearranging your entire space around where your outlets are.

So an extension cord isn’t just convenient—it’s essential.

But Don’t Use Just Any Cheap Cord

Here’s the deal: you’re powering a steamer that generates serious heat.

This isn’t the same as plugging in your phone charger or a desk lamp. You don’t want to risk using a cheap, low-quality extension cord that might overheat or fail over time.

Instead, look for a high-quality, heavy-duty extension cord that’s built to last. Here’s what to look for:

• Rated for outdoor use (even if you’re mostly using your Sauna Box inside—it adds durability)
• Weather-resistant and able to handle some exposure to the elements if you’re setting up your sauna outside
• At least 6-15 feet long, so you’re not limited in where you can place your sauna
• Thicker gauge wiring (ideally 14-gauge or lower) for better power handling and safety
• Grounded plug and built-in surge protection if possible

If you’re investing in a sauna for your health, relaxation, and recovery, don’t skimp on the one thing that powers it.
